The Bredin Institute, 1-Step Newcomer Settlement Program helps New Canadians prepare for and find employment while learning about Canadian societal norms and customs. Our programs and services are offered at no charge and clients are welcome to contact our office for assistance.


Please find attached the UPDATED June 1-STEP Settlement Program Workshop Calendar at the Bredin Institute. In addition to the employment workshops, we are offering the following workshops/sessions for this month. See attached for more detailed information.

Managing My Money Financial Literacy Workshop-One month workshop on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-11:30 in June. Want to learn more about how finances work in Canada or how to save money for your child’s education? This workshop will help Newcomers how to Manage their Money. Must be able to attend all workshop days in June. Register by May 31st.
Child’s Hope Presentation -A Child’s Hope program is looking for families who are interested in fostering or adopting children and youth. If you or your family is willing to share your home, culture and traditions with children in care and learn and help preserve their culture and traditions, this could be an ideal opportunity for you to make a difference. Information on program criteria, eligibility and supports will be presented.

Indo-Canadian Women’s Association Presentation-A speaker from the Indo-Canadian Women’s Association will be presenting information on domestic violence against women in immigrant communities in Canada.
NAIT Student Recruitment Info Session Receive an overview of NAIT programs, admission requirements, the application process, and more…Those who attend can also book a one on one follow up session with the Academic Outreach Coordinator

Canadian Citizenship Classes-Come learn about, the history, geography and government of Canada, as well as your rights and responsibilities as a Canadian Citizen with materials based on the Discover Canada Study Guide. Participants MUST be available to attend all six classes. Next start date July 3rd, 2012 for two weeks every Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5-8pm. Conversation Circles-Conversation Circles are informal sessions that will allow clients to practice speaking in English with other newcomers. It is an opportunity for clients to make new friends and learn about other cultures, as well as share experiences regarding employment/job searching and other settlement issues while improving their English conversational skills.
